SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – The Elms College men's golf team finished tied for sixth at the 2017 Blazer Fall Invitational, hosted by Elms, at The Orchard Golf Club Monday afternoon.
The Blazers 'A' team carded a two-day total of 628 (309-319), paced by junior James Shalhoup (North Easton), who finished tied at 10th with a 152 (73-79). Senior Brian Cowles (East Longmeadow, Mass.) finished tied at 28th with a 158 (78-80), while classmate Mike Fleury (West Springfield, Mass.) was one stroke back with a 159 (78-81) for a share of 33rd. Sophomore Matt King (Feeding Hills, Mass.) tied at 37th with a 160 (81-79), while junior Chris Soderberg (Northampton, Mass.) checked in at 46th with a 164 (80-84).
The Blazers 'B' team recorded a score 657 (329-328) across 36 holes, led by sophomore William Marchand (Springfield, Mass.), who finished tied at 13th with a 153 (79-74). Freshman Frankie Murray (Belchertown, Mass.) grabbed a share of 40th with a 162 (78-84), and freshman Josh Keaton (Northbridge, Mass.) finished 61st with a 170 (83-87). Freshman Christian Pavlakis (Harwich, Mass.) was two strokes back in 63rd with a 172 (89-83), sophomore Mike McFadden ( ) tied at 64th with a 173 (91-82), and sophomore Devin Senerchia (Ludlow, Mass.) was tied at 69th with a 179 (91-88).
Babson College won the tournament with a team score of 598 (294-304). Western New England (297-315) and Rhode Island College (302-310) tied at second with a 612, followed by Westfield State in fourth at 619 (304-315) and Nichols at fifth with a 622 (315-307). Elms and Springfield College (628) tied at sixth, trailed by Suffolk (631), Roger Williams (634), Tufts (635), Amherst (636), Elms 'B', Dean (676), MCLA (684), and Sage College (749). Becker College withdrew from the second round of play.
The Blazers will return to the links for the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship at the Captain's Course in Brewster from October 21-23.
