NASHUA, N.H. - The Elms College men's soccer team was dealt a 2-0 defeat by host Daniel Webster College in a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) contest at Eagle Field Saturday afternoon.
Mattheus de Farias (Lowell, Mass.) and Michael Ottman (Kennebunkport, Maine) potted second half goals and the Daniel Webster defense held Elms to two shots in the final ever regular season home game for the program at Eagle Field Saturday.
The Eagles (9-5-3, 4-0-2 NECC) solidified their chances for at least one more game at home as the squad remained in second in the NECC standings, one point behind Regis. DWC closes the regular season with a visit to Newbury on Wednesday and Mitchell next Saturday.
Elms sophomore Shaquille Robinson (New York, N.Y.) posted both shots on goal for Elms, which moved to 2-3-1 in NECC play with the loss (2-13-1 overall). The Blazers host NECC foe Becker on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
The hosts outshot the visitors by a 25-4 total margin (12-2 on goal) and controlled much of the tempo on the offensive side of the field, drawing 15 corners to none for the Blazers.
It was a corner attempt that led the eventual game-winner in the 67th as an Ian Hutchinson (Litchfield, N.H.) feed bounced around in front of the Blazer goal. After an Alex Carvajal (Medellin, Columbia) tip was turned aside, the rebound fell onto de Faria's foot where he buried a low 6 yarder to the left corner for his fifth of the season.
DWC iced it in the 87th as Ottman was selected for a penalty kick after a Blazer red card in the box and buried the attempt to the far right corner for his fifth of the year.
Cooper Hall (Heber City, Utah) posted two saves for his fifth shutout of the year covering 79-plus minutes while Ryan Flaherty (Manorville, N.Y.) went untested in just over 10 minutes. Tyler Graves (Monson, Mass.) made 10 saves for Elms.
