MEN'S SOCCER ROLLS PAST MAINE-FARMINGTON, 3-0
CHICOPEE, MA, Sept. 22, 2007 - Elms College sophomore forward T.J. Nevue (Palmer, MA) recorded a pair of goals and an assist, and junior goalkeeper Nick Pellegrini (Ludlow, MA) stopped six shots to help the Blazers cruise to a 3-0 win over the University of Maine-Farmington in Saturday afternoon's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men's soccer game at Leary Field.
With the win, Elms College snapped a six-game losing streak and improved to 1-6, 1-0 NAC. Maine-Farmington lost its second straight and fell to 1-2-2, 0-1-1 NAC.
The Blazers had dropped four straight one-goal decisions coming into Saturday afternoon, but wasted little time in taking the lead against the Beavers.
Nevue struck for his team-leading fourth and fifth goals of the year just 2:41 apart in the 24th and 26th minutes to give the Blazers a quick 2-0 advantage. Minutes later, Nevue nearly completed a hat-trick, but was robbed on a beautiful stop by Maine-Farmington junior goalkeeper Brian Lemont (Brunswick, ME).
Sophomore forward Sean Moylan (Chicopee, MA) extended the Blazers' lead to 3-0 in the 53rd minute with his first tally of the year on a breakaway off an assist from Nevue.
Pellegrini did the rest from there, as he posted his first shutout of the year for the Blazers, who outshot the visiting Beavers 19-10.
Lemont finished with six stops for Maine-Farmington in the loss.
Elms College returns to non-conference play when it hosts Eastern Connecticut State University on Wednesday, September 26. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
