Woes Continue for Baseball After a Loss at Anna Maria
MARLBOROUGH, Mass. - The Elms College Baseball team traveled to Anna Maria College for a conference game on Saturday afternoon.
BASICS
Score: Elms College 1 | Anna Maria College 15
Records: Blazers 9-20, 4-10 (GNAC) | AMCats 16-16, 5-8 (GNAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
During the first inning, it would be scoreless for both teams. Elms would have senior pitcher Henry Rondon (Ansonia, Conn.) on the hill, where he would pitch three and ⅔ innings, with two strikeouts and two scoreless innings. Unfortunately, Anna Maria would be the first one to put runs on the board, after they would put six runs on the board in the bottom of the second inning. In the bottom of the fourth inning, the AMCats would add an additional eight runs, but before the inning was over, junior pitcher Justin Saad (Waterford, Conn.) would come into the game to relieve Rondon, where he would pitch two and ⅓ innings, with a strikeout and a scoreless inning. As the game neared its end, the Elms defense would continue to show resistance, including a double play by graduate student infielder AJ Cook (Mendon, Mass.) and infielder/pitcher Brycen Diaz (Andrews, Texas) in the bottom of the fifth.Unfortunately, the Blazers would go the first five innings without a score, even with offensive efforts with the help of a single by first year outfielder/pitcher Sal Ortiz (Springfield, Mass.) and Diaz, until sophomore utility player/pitcher Andrew Ciaglo (Hadley, Mass.) would hit a single into center field to drive in senior outfielder Camron Watkins (East Haddam, Conn.) in the top of the sixth inning. Anna Maria would score one last run in the bottom half of the inning, after a home run to secure the AMCats with the home victory over Elms, 15-1.
