Field Hockey Knocks Off Daniel Webster College, 8-1

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College senior midfielder Brianna Lyons (Canton, Mass.) scored a goal, senior midfielder Julie Hurley (Palmer, Mass.) added an assist, and sophomore forward Kristina Kopyscinski (Agawam, Mass.) netted an early hat trick to help propel the Blazers to a 8-1 victory over Daniel Webster College in Tuesday afternoon's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) field hockey game at Leary Field.

With the win, Elms improves to 5-12 overall, 4-1 in NECC action, while Daniel Webster moves to 1-11 overall, 1-4 in NECC play. The Blazers conclude regular season action with a conference tilt at Regis College on Saturday, October 26 in Weston, Mass.

Kopyscinski scored the first three goals of the contest, finding the back of the net just 2:58 into action and then again at the 8:53 and 26:57 marks to give Elms a 3-0 lead.

Daniel Webster broke through in the 33rd minute of action when Samantha Crooker (Gilford, N.H.) deposited the ball into the back of the net on a saved shot by Sandry Fanas (Lawrence, Mass.) to pull the Eagles to within two at 3-1.

The Blazers extended the lead back to three goals when freshman defender Stephanie Esposito (Orange, Conn.) corralled a rebound from junior forward Kayla Narey's (South Hadley, Mass.) shot to set the score at 4-1 at intermission.

Narey opened the scoring in the second stanza in the 48th minute of action, and Lyons, sophomore midfielder Allison Masi (West Springfield, Mass.), and junior forward Kelly Martin (Enfield, Conn.) each added markers in the second frame to give Elms an 8-1 victory.

Narey, Martin, Hurley, junior forward Jaclyn Soderquist (Enfield, Conn.), sophomore forward Abby McNulty (Bedford, Mass.), and freshman midfielder Marie Lafortune (Southwick, Mass.) all had assists in the Blazers' win. 

Elms' sophomore goalkeeper Samantha Alvino (Holtsville, N.Y.) stopped four of Daniel Webster's five shots on target.

Eagles' goalkeepers Teresa Moscati (Buffalo, N.Y.) and Danielle Melanson (Derry, N.H.) each stopped seven shots in 35 minutes of action.
