Woes Continue for Men's Volleyball After Losing Conference Opener to Regis

CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Elms Men's Volleyball hosted Regis College in a conference matchup on Wednesday evening for their conference opener at Picknelly Arena.

BASICS
Score: Elms College 0 (15, 8, 21) | Regis College 3 (25, 25, 25)
Records: Blazers 2-4, 0-1 (GNAC)| Pride 5-3, 1-1 (GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

We would start off the first set with Regis getting the first two points, but then Elms would capitalize by the Pride's errors. Then sophomore Nick Uschmann (Agawam, Mass.) would get Elm's first kill of the night. Then Regis would make another error that awarded the Blazers with another point. Sophomore Al Sánchez (Guayama, P.R.) would get his first kill of the match, making it Elms second kill of the set. After two more errors made by the Pride, Uschmann would get another kill. After Regis kept the ball, they made another error and Ushmann would get another kill and would get a service ace for the Blazers. After a bad set made by the Blazers, sophomore John Bellafronte (Enfield, Conn.) would get his first kill of the match. After another bad set, Bellafronte would get another kill. Before the end of the set, Regis would make another error and Bellafronte would get one last kill. At the end of the first set, Regis would take the first win, 25-15. The Blazers head their heads up high going into the second set.

At the start of the second set, we would see a different narrative where Elms would get the first point from an error made by Regis. After the Pride put 5 points on the board, Bellafronte would answer back with a kill. Even though Elms made an error, first year Yazhua Marin Valentin (Springfield, Mass.) would get his first kill of the night. Elms would capitalize with Regis making four errors until Bellafronte got another kill. Unfortunately, that would be the Blazers last point of the set. Regis would take their second win of the night, 25-8.

Going into the third set of the match, Regis would score early, but Uschmann would get another point for Elms with a kill. After another error made by the Pride, Uschmann would get another kill which was followed by another error made by Regis and a kill made by junior Rafa Artero (Madrid, Spain). Regis would make another error and Bellafronte would get another kill, which would put two more points on the board for the Blazers. Elms capitalized from Regis's four more errors until Sánchez made a kill for the Blazers. Artero would get another kill before Regis made two more errors. Then, Bellafronte would get another kill, which was followed by two errors made by Regis and a kill by Sánchez. Sánchez would get one last kill before Regis got the last point of the set. Even though Elms put up a tough fight, the Blazers fell short in the third set, losing to Regis 25-21, who took home the win 3-0.
