Women’s Swimming Completes Day One Action of the 2013-14 NEISDA Championship

SOUTH KINGSTON, R.I. – The Elms College women's swim team completed day on action at the 2013-14 New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Championship on Friday, February 14 at the University of Rhode Island.

Elms (73 points) is currently in 15th place out of 20 teams following day one action. 

Friday Preliminaries Highlights

In the preliminaries, freshman Abigail Will (Hopkinton, Mass.) set a new school record in the 100-butterfly with a time of 1:05.89.

Friday Finals Highlights

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, senior Devon DeGrazia (Westport, Mass.), Will, freshman Brianna Sylvester (Springfield, Mass.), and junior Erika Aponte (Palmer, Mass.) came in 16^th place (1:54.05).

The 400-yard freestyle relay squad of senior Kelly Gilhooly (Bloomfield, Mass.), senior Gabrielle Calvanese (Agawam, Mass.), Will and Aponte finished 16^th with a time of 4:52.47.

DeGrazia's lead leg time of 25.52 in the 200-yard freestyle relay was also a new school record.

DeGrazia tabbed second place honors in the 500-yard freestyle with a school record time of 5:13.56, while Will finished 24^th overall in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:06.70.

The Blazers will continue action at the NEISDA Championship on Saturday, February 15 with preliminaries beginning at 9:00 a.m.
