PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Elms College men's soccer team fell to Johnson & Wales in a non-conference matchup, as the Wildcats converted a cross in the final minute of play to defeat the Blazers, 2-1, at Scotts-Miracle Grow Stadium Wednesday afternoon.

In the ninth minute of play, the Wildcats broke the scoreless tie as sophomore Andrew Greenleaf played a ball to senior Doug Krase, who delivered a cross to sophomore Xavier Carty, who put a shot into the bottom corner of the goal, to stake Johnson & Wales to a 1-0 lead. The Wildcats held their 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

With 29:50 remaining in the second half, the Blazers cracked the scoreboard to even the match at 1-1. Senior midfielder Joseph Coleman (Easthampton, Mass.) lofted a crossing pass to the front of the Wildcats goal, where freshman forward Bobby Zaino (Avon, Conn.) knocked a header past JWU junior goalkeeper Jon Robbins to make it a 1-1 game.

Johnson & Wales orchestrated a final attack as the clock ticked under a minute to play. Wilcats senior Kyle Metz played a ball down the sideline and lifted a cross towards the net. Carty knocked the ball down and touched a pass to senior O'Kyle Corridon, who put a shot into the back of the net with 50 seconds to play, sending Johnson & Wales to the 2-1 win.

The Wildcats outshot the Blazers, 28-4, during the contest. Elms junior goalie Ryan Harris (Brandon, Miss.) stopped a game-high six shots, and junior goalkeeper Christian Kostka (Oxford, Conn.) made two saves in relief of Harris. Robbins made one save for Johnson & Wales.

The Blazers move to 1-4-2 for the 2014 season, while the Wildcats improve to 3-2-1 on the season. Elms will return to the pitch against Westfield State in a road tilt Tuesday, September 23rd. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
