PRIOR TO THE GAME
The Elms College Field Hockey team honored their three seniors; Abigail Lafleur (Southwick, Mass.), Sandlie Moncher (Hackettstown, N.J.), and Nina Bourassa (West Springfield, Mass.), and their loved ones prior to the start of the conference matchup.
HOW IT HAPPENED
At the start of the first quarter Rivier would come off the back with a strong start with a shot, resulting in a goal within the first three minutes of play. First year goalkeeper Emily Hunt (Montrose, N.Y.) would make two saves in the first quarter. Unfortunately, the Raiders would have the lead 2-0 against the Blazers. During the second quarter, we would see the same narrative where Rivier would start strong. However, Hunt would have three big saves within the first four minutes of the quarter. Then junior forward/midfielder Kaitlyn Lynes (South Hadley, Mass.) would have Elms first defensive save, followed by another save by Hunt. Hunt would have two more saves and a team save before the Raiders third goal of the game. At the end of the second quarter, sophomore midfielder Olivia Ward (Hardwick, Mass.) would have Elms first shot of the game. Ending the first half, Rivier would take the lead 4-0.
We would see the same narrative going into the third quarter, but Hunt would save five back-to-back shots. Then two more shots were made by Hunt, making the third quarter scoreless. Again, we would see the same narrative going into the fourth quarter, with a goal within under a minute made by the Raiders. But then Hunt would answer back with a save, then a team blocked the following. Hunt would have four more saves to end the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, Elms would fall short and Rivier would take home the win, 5-0.
