Men's Soccer Loses to Albertus Magnus in Conference Play

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Elms College Men's Soccer team traveled to Albertus Magnus College for a non-conference game on Tuesday evening.

BASICS
Score: Elms College 0 | Albertus Magnus College 2
Records: Blazers 5-3-1, 1-1-1 (GNAC) | Falcons 5-2-1, 2-0-0 (GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Albertus Magnus put pressure on the Elms defense early, but sophomore goalkeeper Jack Bousquet (Clinton, Conn.) made some great saves to keep the game scoreless. However, the Falcons broke through early and scored to go up 1-0. Down 1-0, Elms struggled to put shots on goal, as the Falcons defense stood strong and limited the Blazers chances offensively. Junior forward Dru Fairthorne (Ludlow, Mass.) would take two shots during the opening half. Bousquet would also make a great save before halftime to keep the game within reach for the Blazers, but without even mustering a shot during the first half, Elms went into halftime down 1-0.

Junior midfielder Jelani John (Castries, Saint Lucia) would record the first shot of the second half, but Albertus continued to dominate in the offensive end, and forced a crucial Elms foul that led to a Falcons penalty kick goal. The Blazers put up a couple of shots late in the game by junior midfielders Andrew Velasquez (Ellington, Conn.), Jahmai Dixon (Duncans Trelawny, Jamaica), and sophomore forward/defender Ibrahim Ayouba (Springfield, Mass.), in an effort to try and chip into the deficit, but all went wide and missed the net completely. Elms fought to get back in the game, but ultimately fell 2-0 in a tough GNAC matchup.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Dixon and Fairthorne would both take two shots during the contest.

  • John, A.Velasquez, and Ayouba would each take shots of their own.

  • Bousquet would make six saves of the eight shots he faced.
