HOW IT HAPPENED
Early in the game the Blazers would see a couple of shots by junior midfielder Andrew Velasquez (Ellington, Conn.) and senior midfielder Pajorn Drysdale (Nantucket, Mass.) Elms found themselves in a familiar spot down 1-0 early, as Dean capitalized on a couple of Blazers errors to go in front early. However, the Blazers were not deterred, as senior forward Jacobo Molina Ferrer (Valencia, Spain) and junior midfielder Jelani John (Castries, Saint Lucia) fired quick shots on goal, which rattled the Bulldog's defense, resulting in an immediate goal by sophomore forward Ramaul Morgan, Jr. (Port Chester, N.Y.) to even the game. Sophomore goalkeeper Jack Bousquet (Clinton, Conn.) would bolster the Elms defense late in the half and kept Dean from taking back the lead, giving the Blazers confidence in their defense. Junior forward Dru Fairthorne (Ludlow, Mass.) and junior defender Nicolas Velasquez (Ellington, Conn.) had a couple of late shots at the end of the first half, but couldn't find the back of the net, resulting in a 1-1 tie at half.
Fairthorne would quickly score at the beginning of the second half, assisted by Morgan, Jr. to give the Blazers a key lead. However, Elms couldn't protect their goal, and uncharacteristically let Dean score in the ensuing possession to even the game. Bousquet buckled down again after this Dean goal and saved other Bulldog shots. However, the Blazers committed a costly defensive error late in the half again, which led to a heartbreaking Dean goal. Without enough time to respond, the Blazers fell 3-2 in an overall tough game.
