Endicott Snaps Men's Volleyball's Six Match Winning Streak

BEVERLY, Mass. - The Elms College Men's Volleyball team traveled to RV Endicott College for a non-conference match on Tuesday evening.

Records: Blazers 11-3, 0-0 (GNAC) | Gulls 8-3, 0-0 (NEVC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The first set would begin by first year David Dzhenzherukha (Agawam, Mass.) recording a service for the first point of the match for Elms, but Endicott would take control of the set, outscoring the Blazers 5-2. Elms would see a block from first year Juan Jones (Springfield, Mass.), but the Gulls would continue to keep the momentum in their favor adding 12-points to their favor. As the opening set would near its end, the Blazers would add kills by juniors John Bellafronte (Enfield, Conn.), Nick Uschmann (Agawam, Mass.), and first year Joe Culhane (Agawam, Mass.), along with a block from senior Rafa Artero (Madrid, Spain) and sophomore Hunter Ladouceur (Wilbraham, Mass.), but Endicott would take the set 25-12.

The second set would start by the Gulls scoring the early lead, but Elms would see nine combined kills from Uschmann, Culhane, and Bellafronte, along with a block by Jones and Uschmann. Even with these efforts, Endicott would win the set 25-13 and earn a two set lead.

The third and final set would see the two intrastate foes battle early, but with the assistance of kills by Uschmann and Jones, along with back-to-back blocks from Jones and Uschmann, to earn the Blazers the lead. As the set would move forward, the two non-conference foes would battle for lead momentarily, with Elms adding two kills from Artero, two kills and a service by Dzhenzherukha, a Uschmann service ace, and a kill from Ladouceur. Unfortunately, the Gulls would defeat the Blazers 25-22 in the set with a sweep victory.

  • Ladouceur - 15 assists, a kill, a block assists, and a dig.

  • Bousquet - seven digs.

  • Bellafronte - three kills, two digs, and a block assist.

  • Uschmann - five kills, four blocks, three digs, and a service ace.

  • Culhane - five kills and two digs.

  • Jones - three blocks and a kill.

  • Artero - three block assists, two kills, and a dig.

  • Lozado - two digs.

  • Dzhenzherukha - three assists, two kills, and two service aces.

 

UP NEXT: The Elms Men's Volleyball team will return to Picknelly Arena for a non-conference match on Friday, February 20th against No. 19 Massachusetts Institute of Technology at 7 pm.
