WATERVILLE, Maine - The Elms College Women's Basketball team faced Plymouth State University for the second day of the 2025 Terrier Tip-Off Classic in a non-conference game on Sunday afternoon.
BASICS
Score: Elms College 53 | Plymouth State University 70
Records: Blazers 0-2, 0-0 (GNAC) | Panthers 2-0, 0-0 (LEC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Elms would start the game with a layup by first year guard Sanaii Diaz (Worcester, Mass.), assisted by sophomore forward/center Mary Turco (Winthrop, Mass.). The Blazers would continue to control the game as Turco recorded a block and an assist, senior guard Kelly LeBel (Tolland, Conn.) would sink a three-point shot, and senior forward/center Talia Uribe (South Hadley, Mass.) would make a free throw attempt to give Elms a six-point lead. Plymouth State would answer back with a three-point shot and a layup of their own to bring the score within a point, but first year guard Malinna Figueroa (Waterbury, Conn.), would make a three-point shot, assisted by junior forward Tatiana Pereira (Providence, R.I.). The Panthers would then quickly make a three-pointer of their own. Figueroa and Pereira would make three steals, Turco would make another layup, and a free throw would be made by Uribe, but Plymouth State would take the lead 18-12 at the end of the opening quarter. The second quarter would begin with the two non-conference foes trading possession, with Turco adding a steal, until the Panthers scored the first basket of the quarter, followed by a jump shot by Diaz. Shortly thereafter, Pereira would receive a pass from Diaz and make a jump shot to narrow down the score to 23-16. Plymouth State would continue to add to their lead, but the Blazers would see first year forward Devynn Watford (Billerica, Mass.) record a steal and a pair of free throws, Pereira and senior guard Piper Graham (Lancaster, Penn.) each adding a steal, and a jump shot from first year forward Zuleily Lopez (Worcester, Mass.), assisted by Graham. Unfortunately, the efforts from Elms would not be enough to regain the lead and the Panthers would have a 34-20 lead by the halftime break.
The third quarter would start by Diaz finding an open LeBel three times for a trio of three-point shots. As the quarter continued, Turco would add a free throw, a layup, and an assist, Figueroa adding a free throw, Uribe with a layup and a free throw, Graham with an assist, and sophomore guard Gabby Wasiewicz (Worcester, Mass.) would sink a three-point shot. The Blazers would outscore their opposition 19-17 in the quarter, but once again, Plymouth State would hold on to their 51-39 lead. The fourth and final quarter would start with the Panthers scoring first, but Turco would score on a layup and make a steal. The two sides would trade possession, with Elms capitalizing on a layup from Pereira, a three-point play, a layup, and two additional free throws by Turco, a pair of free throws from junior center Teah McKoy (Hartford, Conn.), a steal by Uribe, and a block and a free throw by Lopez. Unfortunately, Plymouth State would win the third game of the Terrier Tip-Off Classic 70-53.
