HOW IT HAPPENED
The regular season finale would start when senior forward/center Talia Uribe (South Hadley, Mass.) would make the opening basket after driving her way to the hoop for a layup. Norwich would make a layup of their own in their first possession, but the two conference opponents would then trade possession until first year guard Sanaii Diaz (Worcester, Mass.) would make a layup, followed by a pair of jump shots by sophomore forward/center Mary Turco (Winthrop, Mass.) and a second layup from Uribe, to take a 10-6 lead. As the first quarter would continue, the Blazers would look to extend their lead after senior guard Kelly LeBel (Tolland, Conn.) would hit a three-point shot, after receiving a pass from senior guard Piper Graham (Lancaster, Penn.), followed by a steal and a layup by Diaz, first year guards Malinna Figueroa (Waterbury, Conn.) and Aniah Glover (West Haven, Conn.) would each record a steal. Then in the closing minutes of the quarter, junior guard/forward Sophia Andrade (Southwick, Mass.) would make a steal, but the Cadets would take the lead, 18-15. The second quarter would begin by Norwich adding to their lead, but not before Uribe would make a layup. The Cadets would continue to control the scoreboard with help from efforts on both ends of the floor. Elms would try to generate some momentum in their favor, with some assistance from a free throw by Uribe, Turco adding a layup, junior forward Tatiana Pereira (Providence, R.I.) making a steal and triage of jump shots, and a steal by Diaz. Unfortunately, Norwich would hold on to their 34-26 lead going into the halftime break.
The two conference foes would start the third quarter exchanging possession early, but that would change soon thereafter when LeBel would record a steal that would lead to a Turco layup. Moments later, the Cadets would make a layup attempt, but Turco would make a big block for the Blazers. As the quarter would continue, Uribe would add a layup to bring the score to within four points, but Norwich would extend their lead once again. Then as the third quarter would near it end, Elms would see Uribe make another layup, a pair of free throws, and a tip-in, a jump shot from Glover, Figueroa added a pair of free throws, two steals and a three-point shot by Diaz, and Turco would record a layup, to bring the score to 46-45 Cadets going into the fourth quarter. The fourth and final quarter would see the two offensive units take control early, with the Blazers capitalizing on a Figueroa jump shot and a layup by Turco, but Norwich would regain control of the momentum after a successful three-point play attempt. As the quarter would move forward, the Cadets would continue to add to their lead, but Elms would be right behind them, with Pereira adding a jump shot and a steal, Uribe making a steal, a three-point shot and two free throws from sophomore guard Gabby Wasiewicz (Worcester, Mass.), Diaz would record a pair of free throws and a steal, and a tip-in and a jump shot by Turco. Unfortunately, Norwich would defeat the Blazers, 68-62, to end their season.
