McDonough's Brace Leads Blazers Past Bulldogs

CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Elms College Women's Soccer team hosted Dean College for a conference matchup Wednesday evening at Leary Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Blazers would come out of the gate with an early 1-0 lead after a goal by junior Jamie McDonough (Dedham, Mass.) assisted by graduate student Hannah Kolodziey (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and sophomore Emily Basua (Oxnard, Cali.) in the 3rd minute. Elms would continue putting offensive pressure on Dean, taking three more shots in the next ten minutes of play, including two by McDonough and a header by senior Kelly Malheiro (Centereach, N.Y.), which would be followed by a second Blazers goal by Kolodziey assisted by sophomore Lilli Ramos (Springfield, Mass.) in the 20th minute. Towards the end of the first half, the Bulldogs would begin to take shots on graduate student goalkeeper Hailey Magierowski (Brimfield, Mass.), but the Blazers defense would hold strong keeping their 2-0 lead heading into the halftime break.

The second half would begin with the Blazers on the attacking side once again with three shots from McDonough and Malheiro. Then in the 60th minute, Ramos would connect with McDonough to score her second goal of the night, extending the Elms lead to 3-0. The two sides would continue trade possession for the remainder of half, with both sides taking multiple shots, including from graduate student Kellie Smith (Marshfield, Mass.) and junior Jordan Lee (Hampden, Mass.) and Magierowski would make four saves during the final 45 minutes. Then in the 87th minute, Dean would score, but the Blazers would secure their second-straight conference victory with the final score of 3-1.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • McDonough would take six shots, five on net, and two goals.

  • Kolodziey would score one goal and an assist.

  • Ramos assisted on two goals during the contest.

  • Basua would assist on one goal during the game.
  • Magierowski would make five saves after facing six shots on goal.

  • Little, Malherio, and Smith would each take two shots.
