HOW IT HAPPENED
The first set would start with an early Regis lead, scoring seven of the first eight points scored. As the set continue, Elms would score off of kills by senior Alysha Izquierdo (Holyoke, Mass.), junior Quiana Gibbs (Porterville, Calif.), and junior Lilliana Simmons (Springfield, Mass.), along with service aces from senior Jaylen Holman (Las Cruces, N.M.) and Simmons. Unfortunately, the Pride would win the opening set 25-16.
The second set would begin with another early Regis lead. The Pride would not give up their lead throughout the set, but the Blazers would see offensive efforts with kills from Izquierdo, Q.Gibbs, Simmons, and first year Samantha Haug (Union, N.J.), along with service ace by Holman, but once again, Regis would win the second set 25-13 and take a two set lead.
The third and final set would start with a different narrative, when the two conference foes would battle tooth and nail, with Simmons recording a kill and a service ace on back-to-back frames. The Pride would take the lead shortly thereafter, but Elms would nip at their heels, with the assistance of two kills by Izquierdo and Q.Gibbs, a pair of service aces from Q.Gibbs and graduate student Alyssa Moore (Ludlow, Mass.), and a block by senior Angelica Marks (Miami, Fla.) and Holman. As the set neared its end, Elms would see a service ace by Holman and a Simmons kill, but Regis would win the set 25-18 to secure the conference victory to sweep the Blazers in three sets.
