HOW IT HAPPENED
The first set would begin with Rivier taking the offensive momentum early with a 5-1 lead. Throughout the set, Elms would see kills from junior Lilliana Simmons (Springfield, Mass.), first year Amanda Cabrera (Greenwich, Conn.), junior Quiana Gibbs (Porterville, Calif.), senior Alysha Izquierdo (Holyoke, Mass.), along with blocks by senior Angelica Marks (Miami, Fla.) and Izquierdo. Unfortunately, the Raiders would not let go of their lead during the set, and would win the opening set 25-16.
The second set would start with Rivier scoring first, followed by a service ace from senior Jaylen Holman (Las Cruces, N.M.), but the Raiders would take back the lead. The Blazers would continue to put together a quick rally to gain a lead, with the help from four kills by Simmons, Izquierdo, and Q.Gibbs, along with a service ace from graduate student Alyssa Moore (Ludlow, Mass.). Unfortunately, that lead would be short-lived as Rivier would regain their lead. Elms would continue their efforts to narrow their opponent's lead, with the assistance of kills from Marks, Simmons, senior Alejandra Marin (Dorado, Puerto Rico), and Holman, along with blocks by Marks, Holman, and Izquierdo. But the Raiders would hold onto their lead and win the second set 25-21.
The third and final set would once again see Rivier take an early lead, but with the help of a kill by Cabrera, followed by a Holman service ace to take a 4-3 lead. The Raiders would continue to regain momentum and control the lead throughout the set. The Blazers would continue their efforts to force a fourth set, with kills from Izquierdo, Marin, Holman, Simmons, and Marks. But the Raiders would win the set 25-18 and would secure the sweep conference victory over Elms.
