HOW IT HAPPENED
Elms found themselves up 1-0 early, as in the eleventh minute, senior forward Jamie McDonough (Dedham, Mass.) netted her third goal of the season for the Blazers. After the Blazers scored, Norwich put a ton of shots on first year goalkeeper Sofia Rivers (Hamilton, Ohio.) and put pressure on the Elms defense. Late in the half, the Blazers had trouble stopping Norwich, and the Cadets scored a goal to tie the game at 1. Elms had a couple of chances at the end of the half via corner kick to score, but the Cadets held strong on defense and kept the game at 1-1 going into the half.
The Blazers remained aggressive on offense in the second half, as McDonough, sophomore midfielder/defender Jenna McGuire (Shelton, Conn.) and junior forward/midfielder Emily Basua (Oxnard, Calif.) all put shots on the Cadet goal. Even though the Blazers failed to break through, they continued to play good defense and wear Norwich down. In the seventy seventh minute, Norwich committed a crucial foul that awarded senior midfielder Daniella Niemiec (Chicopee, Mass.) a penalty kick shot that she converted into a goal to put the Blazers back on top 2-1. After this goal, Elms buckled down on defense and Rivers made a key save late, preserving yet another late win for the Blazers.
