Field Hockey Lose to UMass-Dartmouth in Home Opener
CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Elms College Field Hockey team hosted the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth for their home opener in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UMass-Dartmouth would come out of the gate strong offensively, taking seven shots in the opening eight minutes. The Elms defense would try their best efforts, seeing senior goaltender Katelyn Volk (Warwick, R.I.) recording five saves along with a defensive save by sophomore defender Emily Kilili (Wareham, Mass.), but the Corsairs would score three goals. Towards the end of the opening quarter, the Blazers would make their way down the field and see a shot from sophomore forward/defender Rose Lewinski (South Hadley, Mass.). The second quarter would see the two intrastate opponents trade possessions, where Elms would block two shots, but UMass-Dartmouth would score one more goal to take 4-0 lead going into the halftime break.
In the third quarter, the Blazers defense would hold the Corsairs to a scoreless quarter, including five saves from Volk, a defensive save by senior defender Elizabeth Franzoni (Rutland, Vt.), and two blocked shots. In the fourth quarter, UMass-Dartmouth would add two more goals, as Elms would continue their efforts to the end, with Volk adding three more saves and Kilili making a second defensive save, but the Corsairs would win the game 6-0.
