Field Hockey Hosts Dean in Conference Opener

CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Elms College Field Hockey team hosted Dean College in their conference opener Saturday afternoon at Leary Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Dean would start the contest with a very early lead, scoring in the opening minute after capitalizing on a rebound off a defensive save from sophomore defender Emily Kilili (Wareham, Mass.). The Bulldogs would add to their lead shortly thereafter followed by a pair of saves from senior goaltender Katelyn Volk (Warwick, R.I.). Dean would add three more goals in the opening quarter, but the Elms defense would try to withhold their opposition blocking two shots. The second quarter would see the Bulldogs add another early goal, but the Blazers would make their first shot attempt by first year forward Jordyn Rossi (West Springfield, Mass.). Dean would add three more goals before the halftime break, but the Elms defense would continue their best to stop the opposing offense with Volk making three more saves. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs would have a 9-0 lead going into the halftime break.

In the third quarter, the Blazers would make three blocked shots and Volk would add two more saves, but Dean would add one more goal to increase their lead 10-0. In the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs would add one final goal, but Elms would continue to try to hold strong defensively, with two defensive saves by senior defender Elizabeth Franzoni (Rutland, Vt.) and a final save from Volk. Unfortunately, the Blazers would not find the back of the goal and Dean would win the conference opener 11-0.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• Franzoni would make two defensive saves.

• Rossi would take a shot on goal for Elms.

• Kilili would make a defensive save.

• Volk would make eight saves of the 19 shots she faced.

UP NEXT: The Elms College Field Hockey team will host University of Saint Joseph, Conn. for a conference matchup on Wednesday, September 24th at 7 pm at Leary Field.
