Field Hockey Lose in a Tough Game to Maine-Farmington

CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Elms College Field Hockey team hosted University of Maine-Farmington in a non-conference matchup on Saturday morning at Leary Field.

BASICS
Score: Elms College 0 | University of Maine-Farmington 7
Records: Blazers 0-4, 0-0 (GNAC) | Beavers 3-2, 0-0 (NAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Maine-Farmington would start the game with the early offensive advantage taking five shots in the first seven minutes, including a goal on the fifth shot. Senior goaltender Katelyn Volk (Cumberland, R.I.) would try her best to stop the Beavers, making five saves, but UMF would score once more before the end of the opening quarter. The second quarter would see a familiar narrative, with Maine-Farmington continuing to control the game with their offense, taking seven shots, and would go into the halftime break with the lead 3-0 over Elms.

The Blazers offense would come out the break looking to create some momentum, when first year forward Jordyn Rossi (West Springfield, Mass.) took a shot on net, but would be saved by the UMF goaltender. As the quarter continued, the Blazers defense would continue to try to hold off the Beavers offense, including a defensive save by senior defender Elizabeth Franzoni (Rutland, Vt.), but UMF would score twice in the third quarter, to extend their lead to 5-0. In the fourth quarter, Maine-Farminton would continue to control the majority of ball movement, but the Elms defense would continue their efforts to not allow their opponent from extending their lead, including a defensive save from sophomore defender Emily Kilili (Wareham, Mass.). Unfortunately, the Beavers would add two more goals in the quarter to defeat the Blazers 7-0.
