HOW IT HAPPENED

The game started with both teams battling to see who would score first. Lesley University got ahead, but Elms quickly responded with senior center/guard/forward Edgardo Jacob Cancel (Northampton, Mass.) in a layup assisted by senior forward Adam Sarlan (Chicopee, Mass.). The second basket of the night would come with senior forward/guard Aden Goffe (New Haven, Conn.) converting an unassisted jump shot, followed by Cancel scoring in another layup, and Goffe putting two more points on the scoreboard and converting two free throws after a foul. First year forward/center Rayquan Anderson (Waterbury, Conn.) went and scored two layups, making the game 14-4 for the Blazers. After the first timeout of the game for Elms, senior forward/guard RJ Mayfield (Springfield, Mass.) would then get fouled after an offensive rebound, but only converted one of the shots. After a turnover for each side, Mayfield then got himself two more points after a layup. Goffe then scored a layup after picking up an offensive rebound, followed by a jump shot on the next offensive play, bringing the game to 21-16. Junior guard DJ Watkins (Union, N.J.) scored on a breakaway layup. After Watkins' three-point attempt, sophomore forward/guard Daniel Villanueva (Seymour, Conn.) would pick up an offensive rebound and get fouled, leading to his first two-points of the night. After Goffe converted a layup, Villanueva would then score his first three-point shot of the night, bringing the game to a seven-point lead, 30-23. Goffe picked up an offensive rebound from Watkins and would draw a foul, converting both of his free throws. On a play that started with Villanueva stealing the ball, Watkins then converted a three-point shot assisted by Goffe after obtaining an offensive rebound. Goffe then scored a layup for the very next play, got fouled, and converted both of his shots to end the first half for the Blazers in 14-point lead, 39-25.

The second half started differently from the first one, as Goffe would start with a jump shot, followed by Cancel on a layup. Goffe with another jumpshot and Cancel with another three-point shot for the Blazers would make the game 48-34. After getting fouled, Anderson converted one of his free throws. First year forward Jaedon Bogar (Aubrey, Texas) would also convert one of his free throws after a shooting foul. Cancel then would go and score two layups, first assisted by junior guard Travis Jordan (Springfield, Mass.) and the second one assisted by Sarlan. Another jump shot by Goffe would then make the game 56-45 for Elms. Assisted by Goffe, Watkins then scored another jump shot, and Cancel would bring one more point to the scoreboard after getting fouled to then score a three-pointer, making it a 10-point lead for the Blazers, 62-52. Anderson then scored two free throws, and Goffe converted another layup to finish his game with 29-points. Cancel then converted a jumpshot and a layup, followed by Mayfield on a layup, making the game 72-59 for Elms. In the last minute of the game, Mayfield got another layup, and Watkins ended the game with a spectacular dunk to help secure the Blazers their second-straight victory to start the season 76-64 over Lesley.
