HOW IT HAPPENED
Elms would start the non-conference contest with an eight point scoring run, with senior forward/guard RJ Mayfield (Springfield, Mass.) making a tip-in and back-to-back three-point shots by junior guard Andrew Ciaglo (Hadley, Mass.), assisted by first year Jaedon Bogar (Aubrey, Texas), along with a steal by senior center/forward/guard Edgardo Jacob Cancel (Northampton, Mass.) and a block from junior guard DJ Watkins (Union, N.J.). Framingham State would then make a layup, but the Blazers would continue to add to their lead when Cancel would connect a pass to Ciaglo for a third three-point shot. As the half continued, the two sides would trade possession, with Cancel and Ciaglo would each add a steal, followed by first year guard Jamie Lawson (Charlotte, N.C.) making a layup, but the Rams would add ten points to bring the score to within a basket. The two intrastate foes would trade blows and the lead, with Elms scoring on five jump shots from Watkins, first year forward/center Rayquan Anderson (Waterbury, Conn.), Ciaglo and junior guard Travis Jordan (Springfield, Mass.), a three-point shot by Watkins, and a pair of layups from Anderson and Watkins, along with a block from Mayfield. Unfortunately, Framingham State would go into the halftime break with the lead, 33-30.
The second half would continue to see the two non-conference teams battle for the lead, with Mayfield recording a layup for the first basket of the half. As the Rams would continue to add to their lead, but the Blazers would see Mayfield make five steals, a jump shot, and a free throw, Lawson would make a pair of free throws, a tip-in, Cancel would add a three steals, a pair of free throws, and a layup, Anderson added a free throw, Rolnick would make a steal that would lead to a layup, Watkins would sink a jump shot, a three-point shot, and a steal, Bogar would make a layup, and a successful free throw from sophomore Aiden Dunlap (Chestertown, Md.).
