HOW IT HAPPENED

The conference match up would begin with the two opposing teams putting together strong defensive efforts early, holding each other scoreless until Norwich would score the first basket with a three-point shot. Moments later, Elms would make their first shot, following a jump shot from senior center/guard/forward Edgardo Jacob Cancel (Northampton, Mass.), but the Cadets would double their lead in their next possession with another three-pointer. As the first half would continue, the Blazers would try to keep themselves within an arms reach of tying the contest, with assistance from a layup by senior forward/guard RJ Mayfield (Springfield, Mass.), a pair of free throws from senior forward Adam Sarlan (Chicopee, Mass.), junior guard DJ Watkins (Union, N.J.) would record a jump shot and a layup, but the Norwich offense would continue to make their baskets and extend their lead further. Moments later, Elms would capitalize on a layup by sophomore guard Jack Lo (Harahan, La.) and a three-point shot from junior guard Andrew Ciaglo (Hadley, Mass.), followed by a Mayfield jump shot. The Cadets would continue to make their shots, but the Blazers would look for new methods to rejuvenate their efforts when Mayfield would make a free throw and block a layup until he would make a three-point shot, after receiving a pass from Ciaglo. As the halftime break neared, Elms would see Mayfield add a pair of free throws and layups by junior guard Arik Dagan (Southbury, Conn.) and Watkins, but Norwich would go into the break with a 55-27 lead.

The second half would once again start with strong defensive efforts from both sides, with the Blazers earning two steals by Mayfield, with the second being followed by a Ciaglo three-point shot, but the Cadets would record two three-pointers of their own. As the half would continue, Mayfield would make a pair of jump shots, block a second shot, and would make a slam dunk, after receiving a pass from Cancel. Shortly thereafter, Watkins would record a steal and breakaway towards the basket for a layup. Then with under 13-minutes remaining in the regular season finale, Mayfield would make a jump shot that would help him reach the 1,000 career-point mark in his collegiate career. As the second half would move forward, Watkins would connect a pass to Sarlan for a three-point shot, followed by a three-point shot from sophomore forward/guard Daniel Villanueva (Seymour, Conn.) moments later, along with a steal by senior guard/forward Max Rolnick (Vaughan, Ontario) and a Lo layup. Elms would continue the pressure on Norwich, with Cancel making a layup, four free throws, and a steal and a three-point shot by Ciaglo, but the Cadets would defeat the Blazers 95-57 to conclude the 2025-2026 regular season.
