Men's Hoops Lose to Amherst in Invitational Championship Game

AMHERST, Mass. - The Elms College Men's Basketball team faced Amherst College in a non-conference game in the Championship Game of the 2025 Ken Wright Invitational at Amherst College on Saturday afternoon.

Saturday, November 15th
Consolation Game: Rutgers University-Camden 84 (3-1) vs Maine Maritime Academy 60 (0-3)  - 11 am
Championship Game: Elms College 52 (3-2) at Amherst College 96 (2-0)  - 1 pm

HOW IT HAPPENED

The game would start with the two intrastate foes trading offensive blows with Elms scoring first after a layup by senior forward/guard RJ Mayfield (Springfield, Mass.), followed by a pair of free throws from seniors forward/guard Aden Goffe (New Haven, Conn.) and center/guard/forward Edgardo Jacob Cancel (Northampton, Mass.), while Amherst would score ten points to take a four-point lead. Mayfield would block a layup attempt, followed by Goffe recording a pair of jump shots, assisted by first year guard Jamie Lawson (Charlotte, N.C.), a pair of free throws, and a three-point shot, assisted by junior Travis Jordan (Springfield, Mass.). As the half would continue, the Mammoth would continue to add to their lead, but the Blazers would continue to battle back with the assistance of a three-point play from Jordan, a pair of layups by sophomore forward Aiden Dunlap (Chestertown, Md.), one assisted by first year forward Jaedon Bogar (Aubrey, Texas), followed by a steal by Mayfield would lead into a breakaway layup, and Goffe would convert a pair of free throws and a three-point shot, along with a block by Bogar. Unfortunately, Amherst would continue to hold onto their 49-29 lead going into the halftime break.

The Mammoth would score first in the second half, but Elms would answer back with a jump shot from Goffe and a three-pointer by junior guard DJ Watkins (Union, N.J.), along with a pair of free throws by Goffe. As the half would continue, Amherst would continue to add to their lead, but the Blazers would see senior forward Adam Sarlan (Chicopee, Mass.) record a steal and a layup, Bogar would add a layup, and Goffe would make a jumper. The time would continue to tick off the board, Jordan would make a layup and a three-point shot, Lawson would make a pair of free throws, and senior guard/forward Max Rolnick (Vaughan, Ontario) would make a three-point shot, but the Mammoth would win the 2025 Ken Wright Invitational over Elms 96-52.
