Men's Basketball Outshines St. Joseph's-Brooklyn 72-62
BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Elms College Men's Basketball team traveled to Saint Joseph's University, Brooklyn in a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The game would start with both teams trading possession, until Elms would score the first basket of the game after junior guard DJ Watkins (Union, N.J.) would connect a pass to first year forward Jaedon Bogar (Aubrey, Texas) for a layup, followed by a layup by senior forward/guard RJ Mayfield (Springfield, Mass.). Unfortunately, Saint Joseph's-Brooklyn would answer back quickly with five layups of their own to take the lead. As the first half continued, the Blazers would see sophomore forward/guard Daniel Villanueva (Seymour, Conn.) made a layup and Watkins would sink a jump shot, a three-point shot, and add a steal, along with a pair of free throws by senior forward Adam Sarlan (Chicopee, Mass.) to tie the game 13-13. The Bears would add to their lead, but with Sarlan adding another pair of free throws and a tip-in, and a jump shot by senior center/forward/guard Edgardo Jacob Cancel (Northampton, Mass.) would help Elms take back the lead. As the first half neared its end, Mayfield would block a layup, make a pair of free throws, and add a steal, followed by a pair of free throws and a jump shot from Watkins, a three-point shot by Villanueva, assisted by junior guard Travis Jordan (Springfield, Mass.), a layup and a block from senior guard Aden Goffe (New Haven, Conn.), Sarlan would block a layup, a steal by Bogar that would lead to a three-point play from Villanueva, and Bogar would block a three-point shot to go into the halftime break with a 33-27 lead.
The second half would see SJU-B score the first two baskets to begin, the Blazers would continue to add to their lead, with the assistance of a Goffe layup, but the Bears would take the lead momentarily. Mayfield would block a layup and would make a layup, followed by a three-point shot by Cancel after receiving a pass from first year guard Jamie Lawson (Charlotte, N.C.) after gaining possession on a steal to gain back the lead. Seconds later, Lawson would connect a pass to Cancel for a second three-pointer, followed by a pair of layups from Jordan and Cancel. As the half continued, Elms would keep their lead, with the help of a steal and a layup by first year forward/center Rayquan Anderson (Waterbury, Conn.), a jump shot and a layup from Watkins, Rolnick would make a three-point shot, Mayfield would add a block, a three-point shot, a layup, and a tip-in, Cancel would hit a jump shot, a three-point shot, a pair of steals, and successful free throws by Villanueva and Mayfield to secure the 72-62 victory over Saint Joseph's-Brooklyn.
