HOW IT HAPPENED

The first half would start by the two conference foes trading possession, until Rivier would make the first basket of the game, with a three-point shot. Elms would tie the game soon thereafter following a free throw shot by senior center/guard/forward Edgardo Jacob Cancel (Northampton, Mass.) and a layup from senior forward/guard RJ Mayfield (Springfield, Mass.), assisted by sophomore guard Jack Lo (Harahan, La.). The two GNAC opponents would begin to trade blows to gain the first substantial lead, with the Blazers capitalizing from a jump shot, layup by Mayfield, a pair of jump shots from senior forward Adam Sarlan (Chicopee, Mass.), and junior guard Andrew Ciaglo (Hadley, Mass.) making a three-point shot, but the Raiders would earn the first lead of the contest, 18-14. As the half would continue, Elms would look to keep the game close as Ciaglo would connect a pass to an open Mayfield for a jump shot, followed by a Mayfield layup that would be assisted by junior guard DJ Watkins (Union, N.J.), but the Rivier offense would continue to maintain their lead. Moments later, Cancel would add a layup, followed by three-point shots from junior guard Arik Dagan (Southbury, Conn.) and Mayfield and Sarlan jump shot, but the Raiders would continue to make baskets and keep their lead over the home team. The clock began to wind down towards the halftime break, the Blazers would continue to look for an opportunity to keep themselves within arms distance of Rivier, with some help from a Dagan jump shot, a free throw by Ciaglo, and a jump shot from Lo, but Rivier would go into the break with a 48-33 lead.

The second half would see the Raiders keep the momentum of the game in their favor by adding ten-points early, but following this shooting spree, the Elms offense would answer back with back-to-back shots by Dagan and a Mayfield three-point shot. Unfortunately, Rivier would continue to make shots to extend their lead further. As the half would continue, the Blazers would look for their chance to cut the deficit, with the assistance of Mayfield recording a layup, Watkins adding a three-point play, Cancel making a steal that would lead to a breakaway layup, a tip-in by first year forward Jaedon Bogar (Aubrey, Texas), and a jump shot from Dagan. In the closing minutes of the contest, Watkins would make three free throws and a layup, Mayfield added a layup, four free throws, a layup, and a tip-in, a jump shot by Dagan, a three-point shot and two free throws from first year guard Jamie Lawson (Charlotte, N.C.), along with Cancel recording a layup, a three-point shot, four steals, and a four free throws, a layup from Lo, and a steal and a free throw by Ciaglo.
