Women's Lacrosse Strikes with a 16-1 Conference Victory at Albertus Magnus

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Elms College Women's Lacrosse team traveled to Albertus Magnus College for a conference game on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The first quarter would start with Elms putting early offensive pressure on the Albertus Magnus defense, with three shots from junior midfielder Rachel Dort (Chicopee, Mass.) and senior midfielder Jackie Cronin (Smithtown, N.Y.), until junior defender/attack Shea Barron (Wallingford, Conn.) would score the opening goal of the game. Dort would win the draw control, which would lead to a shot from Cronin and shot by the Falcons that would be saved by junior goalkeeper Marisa LaRocque (Agawam, Mass.). Then moments later, Dort would draw a foul to earn a free position shot attempt and would score her first goal of the evening. As the quarter would continue, LaRocque would make a save, the Blazers would see shots by Cronin and sophomore attack Amanda Reed (Somers, Conn.), until Dort would score her second goal of the game. Then in the final minutes of the first quarter, Cronin would take three-straight shots and LaRocque would make a save, as Elms would end the opening quarter with a 3-0 lead. The second quarter would begin with LaRocque making a save that would lead to Dort scoring her third goal of the night. Cronin would win the next draw control that would be followed by a shot from senior attack MacKenzie Talavera (Manchester, Conn.) and Dort's fourth and fifth goals of the conference matchup. As the quarter would continue, Cronin would continue to take shots, that would be unsuccessful, until she would score her first goal of the game with under four minutes left. Then in the final minutes of the first half would wind down, LaRocque would make a save, first year attack Chloe Sullivan (Hampden, Mass.) would score back-to-back goals, and Cronin would score her second goal of the game, as the Blazers would go into the halftime break with a 10-0 lead.

The Elms offense would carry their momentum into the third quarter when sophomore attack Lily Sheridan (Ashby, Mass.) would score back-to-back goals, followed by additional goals by Cronin, Dort, and Sullivan. Then in the closing minutes of the third quarter, sophomore defender/midfielder Ava Maffuccio (Pittsfield, Mass.) and Talavera would each take a shot, along with a save from LaRocque, as the Blazers would go into the fourth quarter with a 15-0 lead. The fourth quarter would see AMC take the first shot, but Elms would continue to put pressure on their conference foes, with shots from sophomore midfielder Viktoria Olsen (Enfield, Conn.) and Talavera, and a save from LaRocque. Then midway through the quarter, Cronin would score her fourth goal of the game. Then in the final minutes of play, graduate student defender Angelina Cellucci (Sicklerville, N.J.) and Olsen would both add a shot, but then the Falcons would score their first and only goal in the game with two minutes remaining. As the clock expired, Sullivan would take one last shot, but it would be saved, and the Blazers would defeat Albertus Magnus 16-1 for the conference victory.

  • Ingram would record a ground ball.
