Women's Lacrosses Loses a Tough Battle Norwich at Home

CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Elms College Women's Lacrosse team hosted Norwich University for a conference game on Tuesday evening at Leary Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Elms opened the first quarter winning the draw control by first year midfielder Zellia Fanfa (Brunswick, N.Y.), which would set the tone for the rest of the game. However Norwich would answer quickly with the goal of the game. After the Cadets turned over the ball, first year attack Chloe Sullivan (Hampden, Mass.) would cause a turnover, giving the Blazers an opportunity to attack the cage. With strong defense, Norwich would find a hole to make a goal. Junior goalkeeper Marisa LaRocque (Agawam, Mass.) would have three great saves before another goal made by the Cadets. LaRocque would have another save before the end of the quarter. At the start of the second quarter LaRocque would have another big save which caused sophomore attack Lily Sheridan (Ashby, Mass.) force Norwich to turnover the ball. However with a hard fight for the ball Norwich would get the ground ball and score the opening goal of the second quarter. The Blazers defense would put up a fight with LaRocque having another big save before three more goals made by the Cadets. After 8 goals made by Norwich, the Cadets would have a turnover, which allowed the Blazers to have a strong offense procession. Then senior midfielder Jackie Cronin (Smithtown, N.Y.) would score the first goal of the game for the Blazers. Before the end of the half, the ball would go back and forth, with three more saves made by LaRocque which would end the quarter.
At the start of the third quarter, Norwich would open winning the draw control giving them the opportunity on offense and then they would score the opening goal for the second half. The ball would go back and forth, with both teams fighting for the ball, after Norwich came up with the ball, LaRocque would have three huge saves back to back before the Cadets would score another goal. Then junior midfielder Rachel Dort (Chicopee, Mass.) would win the draw control giving the Blazers an offense procession. After Fanfa shot high, Dort would score from a free position shot. At the start of the fourth quarter, Elms would fight on defense and cause multiple turnovers against the Cadets. After Cronin won the draw control Dort would score her second goal with another free position shot. Before the end of the game LaRocque would have another big save. However, Norwich would take home the win 17-3.
