Rolocut's Game-Winner Lifts Men's Soccer Over New England College, 1-0

HENNIKER, N.H. – Elms College freshman midfielder Lorenzo Rolocut (Somers, Conn.) scored what stood as the game-winner in the 64th minute of play, and freshman goalkeeper Christian Kostka (Oxford, Conn.) made five saves to help pace the Blazers to a 1-0 victory over New England College in Saturday afternoon's non-conference men's soccer game in Henniker, N.H.

With the win, Elms starts its season 1-0 overall, while New England falls to 0-1 on the season.

After playing a scoreless first half that saw New England outshoot the Blazers 6-1, Elms found the scoring touch midway through the second period as sophomore midfielder Josh DiNoto (Branford, Conn.) played the ball to Rolocut on a free kick who blasted the ball into the nylon for his first collegiate goal and a 1-0 Elms lead.

The sides notched five shots each in the final 45 minutes with Kostka making three saves for the Blazers and Pilgrim goalkeeper Robert Millard (Barrington, R.I.) turning away four but Rolocut's goal stood as the only score as the Blazers closed out their first victory of the season.

New England's best scoring opportunity came late in the first half on a shot that sailed just wide of the net off the foot of David Walker (Gabon, Africa) with less than a minute to play in the period.

The Pilgrims finished with 11 shots, five on net, while Elms fired all six of its shots on target.

Elms returns to non-conference action on Thursday, Sept. 6 when it hosts WPI at 7:00 p.m. at Leary field in its 2012 home opener.
