Men’s Soccer Falls to Lyndon State College, 4-1

LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – Elms College junior midfielder Adam O'Grady (Somers, Conn.) scored his first goal of the season but Lyndon State College received two scores from Patrice Lumumba (Burlington, Vt.) and the Hornets scored twice in each half to help clinch a 4-1 victory over the Blazers in Saturday afternoon's non-conference men's soccer game in Lyndonville, Vt.

With the loss, Elms falls to 1-2 on the season, while Lyndon State improves to 1-3 overall.

Lyndon State raced out to a fast start as Lumumba scored the first of his two goals on a feed from Kyle Mecham (Wilbraham, Mass.) at the 11:44 mark, before Yessi Gar-Elnabi (Burlington, Vt.) capitalized on a pass from Matt Browne (Seymour, Conn.) less than a minute later to give the Hornets a quick 2-0 lead.

The Blazers cut the deficit in half late in the first half as O'Grady scored an unassisted goal in the 38th minute of play to set the score at 2-1 at intermission.

Lumumba added his second goal of the contest in the 61st minute of play, and Blake Begnoche (Fairfax, Vt.) tallied a scoring strike eight minutes later – both unassisted – to give Lyndon State a 4-1 advantage which it did not relinquish.

Jason Gray (East Thetford, Vt.) made seven saves in the win for the Hornets, while Elms' freshman goalkeeper Christian Kostka (Oxford, Conn.) turned away three shots in the losing effort for the Blazers. Freshman Nicholson Pennant (Kingston, Jamaica) played the second half in net for Elms and notched a save.

Elms is back in non-conference action on Thursday, Sept. 13 when it travels to Westfield State University for a 4:00 p.m. showdown with the Owls.
